It currently has two shops in Nara, selling Tabi slippers and Tabi socks in addition to Tabi Shoes sneakers. Until now, the company has taken a design approach, producing Tabi Shoes sneakers in collaboration with apparel brands and artists, but this project was carried out with the aim of strengthening the functional aspect.

About the product

Comfortable to wear in all situations, rain or sun, in town or outdoors is the all-weather Tabi Shoes: "U-ten". By combining functional fabrics with the non-slip, easy-to-tread, and compact carrying characteristics of Tabi shoes, we have achieved a shoe that can be worn anywhere and anytime. We also deliver Tabi socks with separate toes as well as Tabi shoes, so even first-time wearers can wear Tabi shoes from the day you receive them!

[Waterproof, Water-repellent, and Breathable]
Excellent fabric with waterproof and water-repellent properties and, a certain amount of moisture permeability is used for the outer fabric. They are easy to care for and resistant to dirt as well as water droplets, so they are recommended for outdoor activities such as hiking and camping.

[Strong grip & Compactness]
The split-toe structure is unique to Tabi Shoes (Jikatabi) and the soft rubber sole used in these shoes helps walking using the entire sole from heel to toe. In addition to stabilising the foot and body balance, gripping the ground with the fingertips makes it easier to stand on slippery surfaces. They are also convenient for storage as they fold up to a compact 6 cm in thickness, which can be useful as a second pair of shoes when travelling. Another important feature is the "kohaze" fastening: thanks to the two-stage lacing thread, the tightness can be adjusted and the style can be changed depending on how it is fastened.

[Sustainable materials]
The nylon fabric used for the lining is made from 58% recycled nylon staple fibres called CEBONNER, created by Toray using its proprietary spinning technology from textile scraps and other materials. It is lightweight and abrasion-resistant, making it the ideal fabric for areas in contact with the feet. We also hope that the use of recycled nylon yarn, which Toray is working on as an environmentally friendly next-generation material, will help to reduce the burden on consumer society. (*"CEBONNER" is certified under the international standard GRS (Global Recycled Standard). CEBONNER is a registered trademark of Toray Industries, Inc.)

[Comfortable fit]
These Tabi shoes are wider than our previous products and have flat soles with no arch. While they are comfortable to wear, some people may want a better fit. This is why we offer cup insoles for Tabi shoes. This was made possible with the cooperation of Marugo, a long-established Tabi Shoes (Jikatabi) manufacturer. The flat insoles originally come with cup insoles, which can be replaced or stacked to adjust the comfort level to suit the wearer's own needs.

“U-ten" is produced in cooperation with a factory specialising in Tabi shoes, one of only a few remaining in Japan. A number of processes are painstakingly completed by skilled craftsmen. There are a number of challenges in passing on tradition and technology, and 'demand' is one of them. In order to continue to be needed, demand is created by adding designs and new functionality to the functionality of Tabi shoes to suit modern lifestyles. We also hope to pass on the good qualities of Tabi, which some people say to have been handed down in Japan for more than 1000 years, and to preserve them for the next generation. We would be happy if everyone overseas could use the U-ten Tabi Shoes, to be used anytime, anywhere.

Specifications
-Size (Japan): 22cm, 23cm, 24cm, 25cm, 26cm, 27cm, 28cm
-Colour: Black, khaki, orange
-Contents: 1 pair of Tabi Shoes "U-ten", 1 pair of Cup Insoles, 1 pair of Tabi socks

*The outer fabric is made of "High Blizzatech", a three-layer fabric consisting of nylon tussah, polyurethane film, and nylon tricot with waterproof and water-repellent functions, while the lining fabric is made of nylon fabric with 58% recycled nylon staple fibres. The clasp “kohaze” is made of brass and the sole is of vulcanised rubber.

*Basically, you can choose your size based on your general trainers' size, but because they are available in 1 cm increments, we often ask you to choose a larger size if your trainers’ size is not measured in 1 cm increments (e.g. 25.5 cm wearers often choose 26 cm). If you feel that the length or width is too loose, please use an included cup insole to adjust the length or width.

*The Tabi socks are available in two sizes, 23 cm-25 cm and 25 cm-27 cm, so please note that there may be some looseness for 22 cm wearers. As the socks are quite stretchy, 28 cm wearers will have relatively no problems.

Care Precautions
-If you are concerned about dirt on the surface fabric, squeeze a wet towel hard and wipe off the dirt.
-If the sole is dirty, use a brush or eraser to remove dirt.
-Long-term exposure to high temperatures and humidity can lead to deterioration of the rubber and adhesive points. Please fill with newspaper or other paper and store at an appropriate temperature and humidity.

We, TABI SQUARE Inc, run Shop TABI-JI, a shop specialising in Tabi sneakers. Nara Prefecture, where we have our shop, once flourished as the capital of Japan. Some of the shoes worn by Emperor Shomu in ceremonies during the Nara period (7th-8th century), when Nara was the capital, have a shape similar to that of Tabi socks.

Shop TABI-JI was born in 2007 in such a place, Nara. It sells a wide range of products, including original Tabi shoes and Tabi socks, as well as Tabi shoes from major manufacturers, at its shops in Nara and on its website.

We have been devoted to Tabi Shoes, Jikatabi, for 15 years. We invite you to pick up a pair that gives shape to our ideas.

*The schedule given in the text is only as of the time the project was published. Due to the nature of pre-orders, there is a risk of delivery delays. As a general rule, cancellations due to delivery delays are not possible, but if the delivery exceeds four months from the scheduled delivery month, only those who wish to cancel will be able to do so.

*For quality improvement, product specifications and design may be partially changed without prior notice.

*The product photograph has been processed to bring it as close to the colour of the actual product as possible, but the colour may differ from the actual product due to your monitor settings, room lighting, etc.

*Even in the same colour, there is a possibility that the colour taste may differ slightly depending on the colour (dye) and lot.

*Because this product (upper part) becomes a commodity manufactured by the handwork of a worker and a craftsman, a little individual difference occurs.

*Although the outer material with waterproof function is used, if the shoes are flooded for a certain period of time, there is a possibility that some water may permeate inside from the seams.

*Because Tabi Shoes use a fastening "kohaze", which is one of the characteristics of Tabi Shoes, if the heel part is immersed in water exceeding approximately 5 cm, water will penetrate inside from the fastening part.
