About the product

[Military items designed for durability and easy use]
Among military equipment, wristwatches are an important item supplied by the army to carry out its missions. Therefore, the purpose of wristwatch production is clear: to ensure clear, accurate, and durable watches, which is still relevant today.

Among the many military watches produced, the TYPE A-11 24H stood out as a 24-hour watch that was manufactured by Elgin, Bulova, and Waltham. It was also a representative model of the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II. The TYPEA-17a, a masterpiece dial, are reissued. The TYPE A-11 has various dials and cases, but we have reissued the Elgin case, which has a distinctive Elgin coin edge.

The black and white two-tone dial for night and day is the TYPE A-17a, which is now considered Elgin's masterpiece military watch because of its highly legible design with black and white coloring around 24 and 12 o'clock, taking advantage of the 24-hour feature.

TYPE A-11 has been reissued many times, but our model is as close to the original as possible, including the shape of the case body, dial and belt.

[Watches by Elgin]
Elgin National Watch Company (Elgin), an American watch brand famous for antique watches such as military watches, was founded in 1864 with the purpose of mechanically creating pocket watches by inviting engineers from Waltham, Illinois, USA, with premises and assets provided by the city of Elgin. In just a decade or so, the company became one of the leading manufacturers in the heyday of the American watch industry, with mass production in large factories.

Elgin is also famous among American manufacturers as a pioneer in the field of pocket watches and wristwatches, especially military watches. Since the late 1800s, the company has been delivering railroad clocks, and since the 1900s, it has firmly established its position as a supplier of military clocks.

Once only considered accessories, watches were required by railroads to be reliably accurate. During that time, most railroads were single-track, and it was necessary to guide both upbound and downbound trains to the turnaround lines. In those early days of the railroad network, a high level of accuracy was required because many lives were at risk.
Later, the accuracy of watches became so crucial for protecting human life that the "Railroad Approved" certification mark was established for railroad clocks. Elgin gained the public's trust through this certification and began producing watches for the military, which further entrusted them with human lives.

[Historical background]
In 1926, the Army Air Corps was established. Although the importance of air power became widely known throughout WWI, the government only allowed the establishment of an Air Force as part of the Army Corps. Therefore, it was a unit that did not conduct its own operations using air power but followed the chain of command of the ground forces, which were not active due to the Great Depression at the time.

The General Headquarters Air Force (GHQ AF) was established on March 1, 1935. Thereafter, the GHQ AF was responsible for all command and control.

In 1941, the War Department established the Army Air Forces. The Air Corps was given the same status as the Army Ground Forces.

In March 1942, under a presidential decree, the Air Force was reorganized and separated from the Army. After this, the white dial of the TYPE A-11 that had existed until then disappeared and was replaced by a black dial.

In 1947, the Air Force became an independent branch of the United States Air force.

[Navigation Hack watch TYPE A-11]
The prototype design of the TYPE A-10 was completed in 1937, but it was never adopted, and this pilot's wristwatch was adopted in October of the same year to replace it. The TYPE A-11 was manufactured primarily by Elgin's Bulova Waltham and became a representative model in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. As the model most procured by the U.S. Army Air Corps, there is a wide variety of dial types. It was so popular that a navy type (R88-W-800 Dust proof Navigation watch) was also produced.

This is a rare 24-hour watch with an hour hand that completes one revolution in 24 hours. Since Japanese quartz movements do not currently produce 24-hour movements, the 505.24H movement by RONDA of Switzerland was used to create this watch, with ingenious innovations in the shape of the hands. The numerals on the indexes and the hands are slightly brownish in color to give an antique look.

Eventually, times changed, as all-weather fighters capable of raiding at night or in the rain emerged. With the development of aircraft, the black dial 24-hour display unique to military watches was later carried over to the Vietnam War era.

[TYPE A-17a 24-hour black-and-white dial]
It is highly acclaimed as Elgin's masterpiece military watch and is a popular model that graces the cover of military watch specialty books. By painting the morning and afternoon hours in black and white, this model was very popular among pilot-within-a-watch navigators for its high visibility and ease of use. Reissued by A code last watch coin bezel made for pilots watch. To be precise, it is slightly antiquated and has a white and black dial with a creamy tint instead of white.

[Designed with attention to detail]
Watch body case

The case and shape of the original watch are produced in stainless steel with the same size as the original. The small stainless steel case is approximately 32mm in diameter and 35mm when the crown is added. The U.S. military watch size at that time is just the right size for modern Japanese and women. The coin-edged bezel case is one of many available, and the back cover is also a coin-edged screw-on type with a jagged cutout. This has the purpose of making scratches less noticeable even if the watch body is bumped on the corners, but it is also excellent in terms of design.

Crown
The crown is larger than the watch body to make it easier for pilots to operate the crown even when wearing gloves.

Glass-Wind shield glass
The domed glass with "R" is the original mold that is formed into a rounded shape.

Strap-strap belt
Two types of strap belts are available: a cotton chino cloth belt faithfully reproduced from the original and a functional nylon belt (NATO strap). Both belts are 16mm wide.

Fabric strap
The strap is made of strong twill weave cloth, a reissue of the original. The separate type straps (upper and lower straps in different shapes) have the belt holes faithfully sewn with reference to those of the time. It has an indescribable taste.
Wrist circumference size: approx. 14cm-19cm.
*Colors may fade due to perspiration and deterioration over time.
*Yarn fraying may occur.

Nylon strap
NATO straps are nylon belts made of grosgrain woven textile. This time, khaki color was chosen. Often confused with green, khaki refers to the color of desert sand, which is a light brown. The NATO belt has been used since the Vietnam War era because of its resistance to perspiration even in the tropics and its popularity among soldiers. Arm wrist circumference size approx. 14cm-19.5cm.

Montre Roroi Co., Ltd. was established as an original watch production division of Muramatsu Watch and Clock Manufacturing, which is currently known as M.I.C. Co., Ltd. and was one of Japan's first watch manufacturers founded in 1893.

While assisting major jewelry makers and famous apparel makers in the production of watches and clocks, the company reproduced Muramatsu's original brand watches "PRINCE" and "KEYFORD" under the theme of "watches that will always be loved." The Bugle alarm clock was selected for the MoMA Shop at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Grab table watch was selected for sale as a 150th-anniversary item at the Haussmann store of the Printemps department store in France. Visit http://prince-keyford.com/ for more information.

In addition to the traditional "PRINCE" brand and the "KEYFORD" brand, which incorporate new elements into classic watches, we have always been looking for new markets. Without wavering from our theme of "timepieces that will always be loved," we were able to develop a new market for our military timepiece series.

As mentioned above, the purpose of military timepieces is clear: to combine functionality, design, and technology with clarity, accuracy, and durability. This is the goal of the modern wristwatch. We will continue to develop items with military designs that have been improved and loved by the fashion world for many years.
