Pharaoh Coat in the 70s-80s Style Denim

The Pharaoh coat (also known as a car coat) is familiar to car enthusiasts and motorbike riders, and has recently been featured in magazines as a stylish casual item for adults.

This Pharaoh coat is made of denim. Denim pharaoh coats have been available for some time, but compared to other outerwear, there are fewer on the market, and even if they are available, they are often expensive.

We have achieved a high quality yet affordable price by making them in our local denim production area, Fukuyama in Bingo. We use a special denim fabric that reproduces the colour, texture and appearance of the 70s and 80s style, giving it a tasteful atmosphere.

The fabric was made with reference to US denim from the 1970s, when rope-dyeing was developed for the first time in Japan, which could dye the fabric without any irregularities. In other words, it can be said to be a reproduction of the denim of the 70s and the way it looked up to the 80s, when wide innovative looms became mainstream.

Unlike uneven denim, which uses slub spun yarns of uneven thickness, the twill grain is clear. The yarn used for this product is spun in an open-ended technique, which gives it a characteristic crinkled appearance when washed, a look often seen in the slim denim that was popular in the 80s. The dyeing is pure indigo ten times, dyed slightly lightly, so the colour will fade to a beautiful blue with no warp fading in a relatively short time. One of the characteristics of open-ended yarns is that the surface is "twisted" during the yarn-making process, making it smooth, but the inside is less "twisted", so the yarn swells when washed. The more the fabric is used, the softer and easier it becomes to wear.

The length is not too long, just enough to cover the hips. The ribbing is made of a firm, thick material with an upright collar, and the buttons are of the Permex type with a snap fastening and are matte silver in colour. The product comes in two types: unlined and quilted lining. The product is finished in a non-washed (rigid) finish.

The unlined type is recommended for those considering wearing the product in the non-winter months, while the lined quilted type with a black diamond quilt with padding lining is recommended for those considering wearing the product in the cold winter months.

Pharaoh Coat is produced in Fukuyama, an area renowned for its denim and casual products. In the Bingo region of eastern Hiroshima Prefecture, cotton production has flourished since the Edo period and indigo-dyed textiles, Bingo Kasuri, were produced. The traditional techniques used to produce these indigo-dyed fabrics helped the region become a major denim production area after the war. Various denim-related industries, such as weaving mills and indigo-dyeing factories, have come together to engage in manufacturing, and Fukuyama City in Hiroshima Prefecture, in the Bingo region, accounts for 70% of the national share of denim, the fabric used to make jeans.

We have been focusing on affordable prices, while carefully crafting our products by having them cut and sewn by skilled craftsmen in Fukuyama, Bingo region. In addition, our pattern-making is carried out by staff who are specially trained technicians and certified as Zengiren Meisters.
