“HONOMA” Outdoor Tatami - Experience Japan While Camping

About the Product

The challenge is supported by the materials used. The tatami surface is made of Japanese paper, which is about three times more durable than rush mats, and is resistant to sunburn and fading. So the beauty of tatami can be maintained for a long time. The resin coating makes it water-repellent and stain-resistant. For heat-insulating material, we use Toughlong ES, developed by Okayasu Rubber Co. This is a functional material that combines high heat insulation and cushioning properties with a thickness of 3 mm, and is packed with the advanced technology of a Japanese manufacturer.

CORDURAⓇ by INVISTA is used for the edge of the tatami mat. This is a high-functional fabric with high resistance to friction, tearing, and abrasion, which is well-known in outdoor goods. The 610P used in this project has a Teflon coating to protect it from water and oil-based stains. The lining of the tatami is a nylon ox fabric handled by Japanese fabric manufacturer Masuda Co. In addition to its high durability and water repellency, Hypalon treatment (waterproofing) is applied to the reverse side of the fabric to give this nylon fabric firmness and a high level of waterproofing. This product is a collaboration with the popular YouTube drama "Oyaji Camp Meshi". Taking advantage of feedback from the "Oyaji Camp Meshi" staff, who know camping well, we have achieved a product that is light and easy to carry, yet durable enough to use outdoors without worry. Just like the main character's favorite items used in "Oyaji Camp Meshi," we aim to make “HONOMA” a product that will be loved for a long time to come.

Mr. Koyanagi, the fifth generation of Koyanagi Tatami Shoten, which has been in business for over 150 years in Isahaya City, Nagasaki Prefecture, is in charge of manufacturing. He is a young and passionate craftsman. He focuses on producing attractive tatami products that combine the tatami techniques and traditions handed down from generation to generation with modern lifestyles.
